Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Miran (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a question-bank app for school students in Egypt, run by Miran, El Minya Governorate. You can reach us at info@miranlabs.io.
This policy explains what we collect and why. By creating an account or using the app you agree to it. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Your name and email address, and a password (we store only a one-way encrypted hash of it, never the password itself).
- An optional phone number for contact only (it is not used to sign in).
- Your study stage and grade, and optional profile details you choose to add, such as date of birth, gender, governorate, school name and a profile picture.
- If you sign in with Google (or Apple on iPhone), we receive your name and email address from that provider. We never see your Google password.
- Questions you report, and any message you send to support.
Information created when you use the app
- Your answers, test results, progress and the question banks you claimed (and until when).
- The words you search for.
- Your language and display settings.
Information collected automatically
- Device information: a random device identifier created by the app, platform (Android or iOS), app and operating-system version, and a push-notification token if you allow notifications.
- Technical logs on our servers: your IP address, request times and errors, used for security, rate limiting and fixing problems.
- Crash and error reports (through Sentry) that help us find bugs. We remove passwords, tokens and masked phone numbers from these reports before they leave the app.
What we do not collect: your precise location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data, or advertising identifiers. The app contains no advertising and we do not sell your personal data.
3. How we use it
- To create and secure your account, sign you in, and keep you signed in on your devices.
- To provide the service: show question banks, build practice tests, save your results and progress, and show your review.
- To send you messages about your account, such as an email verification code or a password-reset link, and notifications you have allowed.
- To keep the service safe: prevent abuse, limit repeated attempts, and investigate problems.
- To improve the app and the question banks, for example by looking at which questions are reported or searched for.
- To meet legal obligations.
4. Legal basis
We process your data to provide the service you asked for, to protect the service and its users, to meet legal obligations, and, where the law requires it, with your consent. We follow the Egyptian Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 151 of 2020).
5. Who we share it with
We share data only with service providers who help us run the app, and only what they need:
- Hosting and database providers that store our servers and backups (Egypt).
- Email delivery provider that sends verification and password-reset emails.
- Sentry, for crash and error reports.
- Google (and Apple on iPhone), only when you choose to sign in with them.
- The push-notification service of your device platform, if you allow notifications.
We may disclose information if a law, court or authority requires it. If our business is ever sold or merged, your data would move with it under the same protections.
Some of these providers process data outside Egypt. We choose providers that protect data to a comparable standard.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account data is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account (see below) it is erased.
- Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
- Encrypted backups of our database are kept for up to 35 days and then destroyed; a deleted account disappears from backups as they expire.
7. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored as one-way hashes. Access to our systems is limited to authorised staff, and backups are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security; if a breach affects you we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
8. Children
Miran is for students aged 16 and over. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. We show no ads to anyone. If you believe a person under 16 has an account, or you are a parent or guardian and want to see, correct or delete your child’s data, contact us at info@miranlabs.io and we will act on it promptly, including deleting the account.
9. Your rights and deleting your account
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to withdraw consent, or to object to some uses. Most of this you can do yourself in the app: Profile → Settings lets you edit your details, and Profile → Settings → Delete my account permanently deletes your account and the data attached to it (your progress, results, tests and question-bank access).
You can also request deletion without the app: see how to delete your account, or email info@miranlabs.io from the address you registered with.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
